FCSD1 Salaries
Fremont County School
District 1 offers starting teacher compensation
that is now 50 percent greater than it was five
years ago. For the upcoming 2009-10 school year,
the base teacher salary is$42,650. By
comparison, in the 2003-04 school year, the
district was offering starting salaries of only
$24,950.
There are several
reasons for the jump in teacher compensation.
Wyoming is blessed with mineral revenues that
have greatly increased
funding and resulted in a state surplus. The
Wyoming State Legislature has directed
additional revenues derived from the state’s
mineral wealth to its School Foundation’s
funding program. The Foundation distributes
money to the local school districts in the form
of a block grant, and local school boards can
then determine how the money is to be spent. In
FCSD1, the school board decided to increase
staff salaries to make the district more
competitive in the region to attract the best
available educators.
In addition to teachers,
all staff in the district received raises. About
60 percent of all salaries in the district are
devoted to classroom teachers.
