Instructional Technology at Fremont #1

Students in today’s classrooms are digital learners, and FCSD1 is doing its best to bridge the digital gap between teachers and students.

During and after school hours, the two district educational technologists help teachers integrate technology in every classroom.
This year, Tech Tuesdays have provided teachers with a variety of workshops to practice tech skills for classroom use. A summer technology institute on Web 2.0 tools will help teachers collaborate and communicate outside the traditional classroom.

Digital Cameras
Every teacher has a digital camera and we have a classroom set of digital cameras for students to use on field trips and digital projects.

Interactive Whiteboards
Every elementary classroom has either a SMARTboard or
Promethean Activboard with LCD projector. More and more teachers are creating and using interactive lessons on their boards, engaging students in learning.

Audience Response Systems
Every building now has at least one set of “clickers” that help assess student learning. Teachers can give a test using the interactive whiteboard, and students send their answers using the clickers. Tests are then automatically scored, and students get immediate feedback.

WEN video conferencing
The Wyoming Equality Network, a video conferencing tool used for distance learning, has opened up opportunities beyond our imagination. Students in Jeffrey City (a small rural school 50 miles from Lander) are now learning art, Spanish and a variety of 2nd and 3rd grade standards through the WEN at North Elementary. Classrooms can now take virtual tours of museums, join scientists in the field, and talk to astronauts from NASA.

MP3 players
MP3 players are now available for check-out through North and South’s libraries so students can listen to their
favorite books while reading along. We’ve seen an increase in book checkout as students are excited to use this technology to enhance their reading experience.

Teacher Websites
Our new and improved district Web site gives teachers the ability to communicate with students, family and community members through their classroom Web pages. Teachers can post pictures, classroom calendars, homework information, samples of work, podcasts and videocasts, and even host discussion forums on their Web sites.
