Hello LMS Families!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful holiday break. It was nice to spend time with friends and family, catching up on life, and just chilling for a couple of weeks. I am sure that everyone is recharged and ready to hit the ground running the second half of the year!

We will have a PIE meeting on Monday, January 14th at 6:00 p.m. Mr. Ley and our administrative intern, Mindy Clancy will be leading the discussion around testing. We have the WY-TOPP interim coming up as well as the NAEP for 8th graders. I hope you will make plans to join us.

Remember we have PIE meetings every second Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. This is a great way for our parents to learn about things at LMS in more detail and ask questions. I would love for you to attend!

We will be working on updating our School Improvement Plan in the next couple of weeks. I would like to have 2-3 parents that would be willing to read over and provide input into our plan. If this is something you would be interested in doing, please email me at jshanley@landerschools.org.

Cold and Flu Season:

Flu and cold season is here! This is the time of year when colds, flu and other viruses are at their peak. Headache, sore throat, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, and aches are some of the symptoms. A child who has any of these symptoms and has a FEVER should not come to school. Your child cannot learn well when he/she is ill and other students and the staff are at risk for also becoming ill. So please keep your child home until your child is feeling better and is fever free for 24 hours without fever medicine. Call the school so they know the reason your child is absent. If your child is not improving, please call your child’s medical provider.

Cold Weather Notes:

It is important that students come to school dressed appropriately for winter weather. Because temperatures can fluctuate drastically during the day, coats, hats, and long pants are important clothing for protection from the winter weather. If at all possible, we try to send the students outside for recess. Students need the opportunity to get outside and release their energy. Unless the wind chill/temperature is unsafe for the 20 minute exposure time, the students will go outside for recess. If your child is in need of a winter coat or other clothing please contact one of our school counselors; Mrs. Polson or Mrs. Jensen for assistance at 332-4040.

I would also like to remind our parents who transport children to school to be mindful of the winter road conditions. The streets around the school can be slick so it is imperative that you exercise caution when driving around the school. Please do not stop your vehicle in the middle of the street to drop a student off. Pull in to the school parking lot or pullover to the side of the road. If you pull in to the school parking lot, please pull up as far as possible to let your student out. This will prevent the parking lot from becoming a bottleneck. Watch for pedestrians in the crosswalks and be cognizant of the posted speed limits. There will be an increased Lander PD presence and traffic laws will be strictly enforced.
