Hello LMS Families –

I hope that everyone is having a good start to the New Year. We are moving right along at LMS and a lot of things are happening. This week’s blog is packed full of exciting information.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND LMS:

Student Council: Today kicks off Kindness Week at LMS. Student Council

Monday: Cover up mirrors to promote positive body image and self-esteem. Here are a couple articles that gave our students inspiration.

Tuesday: Mix it up at lunch for each grade. StuCo will help facilitate this by guiding students to different tables as they come in for lunch. The hope is that they can talk/get to know their peers with whom they know little about.

Wednesday: Say 2 nice things day. Each student will be encouraged to say at least 2 nice things to someone at LMS. This can be a fellow student or a teacher.

Thursday: Structured recess for each grade. StuCo members will facilitate different large group activities during 6th, 7th, and 8th grade recess. These games will be Capture the Flag, Sharks and Minnows, and 4-square. This will hopefully encourage kids to invite each other to play and keep the games going after this day.
***8th grade StuCo members will stay for 6th grade recess to help with these activities.

Friday: Post-It notes on each locker. StuCo members will be putting a positive/inspirational note on each and every students locker that morning. When students arrive, they will be greeted by a beautiful note just for them.

This week is our Screen-Free Week Challenge that was discussed by Dr. Forbis when she visited our PE classes. For all 5 days of this week if students do not use screens, like TVs, phones, tablets, and computers, except when required for school, students can bring a signed Pledge Card to the Lander Medical Clinic to receive a Mystery Prize. Students can see Mrs. Polson if they have questions or need a new Pledge Card.

Student Council will host a game night this Friday, January 25th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the LMS Commons. Bring a game to share, students that attend must attend with an adult. Free popcorn and paid concessions available.

LMS Spelling Bee: The LMS Spelling Bee will be held on Monday, January 28th during lunch recess. The Bee will consist of a paper and pencil test consisting of approximately 20 words from the Scripps National Spelling Bee grade-level list. The top two LMS candidates from each grade level will attend the Fremont County Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 6th at CWC Little Theatre in Riverton. Questions? Please contact Erica Parker (eparker@landerschools.org) or Tyler Roberts (troberts@landerschools.org).

8th Grade Spanish: If you are struggling knowing the vocabulary or need help with conjugating verbs head over to Mrs. Rounds’ website. There you will find links, videos and resources to help you. Want to do more in Spanish? Try Duolingo. This language learning app can help prepare you for success with Spanish in middle school and high school. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Rounds (jrounds@landerschools.org)

Science Fair: Congratulations to all of our students that competed at the Regional Science Fair last Friday at CWC in Riverton. Our students and science teachers have worked hard over the last several months and it paid off. Click the link for the complete list of LMS Winners. Students who placed in the top three at Regionals will travel to the State Science Fair in Laramie on March 3rd-5th.

Nordic Skiers: Time to toot the horn for the LMS skiers who went to Soldier Hollow Friday and Saturday. The competition drew teams from WY, ID, UT, CO, OR and WA.

Parent – Teacher Conferences:

To help increase productive communication and assist in student learning, please reserve some time in your schedule to attend Parent/Teacher Conferences. Conferences will be held on Tuesday, February 26th from 3:30 to 7:30 pm and Wednesday, February 27th from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. During conference hours teachers are available throughout the building, normally in their classroom, and parents proceed around the school to discuss their student’s progress in each course. Unlike elementary schools, no specific, individual times are reserved; it is a first come-first serve basis.

Please feel free to contact any individual teachers at any time if you have an immediate question or concern, or feel a conference is needed. Teacher email addresses are listed on our web site at http://www.landerschools.org/wp-content/StaffDirectory/Directory_LanderMS.pdf.
