Hello LMS Families!
I hope that everyone had an enjoyable and restful Thanksgiving break. It was nice to have a few days off to relax and recalibrate. I enjoyed my time off with family, finished 3 books and continued working on an afghan I am making. All in all, time well spent.
Here is what's happening this week:
From Mrs. Jensen: It's that time of year again where our community comes together to help those in need. Sign ups are open for:
Angel Tree: Our annual Angel Tree will be up and running again this year. If you and your family are struggling this year to buy presents, please consider applying for our Angel Tree. Parents complete a short questionnaire about their children's clothing sizes, likes, and needs and we gather the information and put it on a tree in our lobby. Community members then shop for the kids and LMS wraps the presents for the families! All names will be kept confidential. To qualify, you must have a student enrolled at Lander Middle School. Applications can be found in the front office or counseling office. Applications are due on Dec. 7th. Please complete and return as soon as you can. If you have any questions, please email or call Mrs. Jensen at cristinajensen@
- Christmas Baskets: If you are worried about feeding your family over the long Winter break, please consider completing the Christmas Basket application from the Elks. Applications can be found at the LMS front desk. This will enable a family to receive a basket full of food for the holiday.
Service Learning: We are still collecting school supplies for the supply drive for Merritt Brown Middle School in Lynn Haven, FL. MBMS was completely devastated during Hurricane Michael and will take the remainder of this school year to clean up and renovate. Students are in need of basic school supplies. We have a box up at the main office so if you would like to drop things off, you are welcome to.
Saturday School: We will be inviting students who are missing 1 or more CFAs in any of their core classes (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies) to attend Saturday School this Saturday from 8am to 11am to make these up. Students can still work with teachers this week to take care of any outstanding CFAs. We will be sending out emails to parents on Thursday for those students who will be asked to attend. If you receive an email and your child is unable to attend, please contact Mrs. Shanley (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mrs. Polson (email@example.com).

6th grade social studies students just finished digital presentations on battles of the west by conducting research and taking notes on an assigned battle or massacre during the Westward Expansion era. Students composed individual and group summaries and created a digital representation of the assigned event by including maps, statistics, illustrations depicting the events. Students will wrap up the unit on Westward Expansion by early December with an exam tentatively scheduled for Tuesday December 4th.
Have a great week!
