Hello Everyone,

Sorry this is a couple days late, however I was trying to set the date for the LVHS Parent meeting I was hinting of earlier.  This meeting is now set for Wednesday, April 26th at 6pm in the LVHS Auditorium.  During this meeting I hope to walk all of our parents and other interested community members through the changes that are occurring at LVHS.  Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  1. Professional Learning Communities, what are they and how are they driving the changes?
  2. Standards Based Grading, how this will look in the fall and what that will mean for students and parents.
  3. What you can expect from LVHS now and in the future.

I would highly encourage all of you to attend this meeting as there will be a wide range of topics covered that will have an impact on your students starting this fall.

A reminder that the State Testing Day for all 9th -11th Graders is next Wednesday (4/19).  Freshmen and Sophomores will take the ASPIRE test while the Juniors will take the ACT.  All students need to arrive early that day to get room assignments and sign in to the testing module.  Please encourage your students to be here no later than 7:45 that morning.  Please remind them as well to bring their fully charged chromebook and the charger to school that day.  The tests will run from 3-4.5 hours and so a fully charged chromebook with a charger is essential to get through the day.  We will provide a light breakfast, snack, and pizza lunch that day for all students.   Students will be allowed to leave after their tests, if you would like your student to remain on campus please notify the office at your earliest convenience.   Buses will run on their regular schedule.

The LVHS Night at the Museum was a big success last night as the junior class showcased their family history in our annual event.  I am continually impressed by the quality of the research, presentations, and artifacts that are on display each year. I want to thank all of the families who helped prepare their students as I know it is a massive undertaking, but one that is very worthwhile in the end.  Special thanks to Mrs. Moss and Mr. Francom for their work in preparing students for the project as well as our other staff and community members who served as judges for the event.

This past weekend we had eight students from our Anti-bullying group SPEAK, go to the Shepard Symposium  on Social Justice in Laramie.  This is always a great experience for our students who attend.

Congratulations also to the LVHS FFA who represented us very well at their state conference this past week.  I have not got the full results, however I know that we had numerous students earn awards at the event.  They will have their banquet this Thursday at 6:30 in the LVHS Commons

This Wednesday marks the second-to-last celebration of the 2016-17 school year.  As always parents are invited to attend these monthly events to help us celebrate the amazing things our students accomplish.

I hope that everyone can make it to the home opening of Lander Tiger Soccer this Thursday afternoon against Rawlins.  Track will be on the road as will golf, so I hope that everyone will come and cheer on our boys and girls soccer teams.
