Hello Everyone,

The halls of LVHS are definitely full of excitement as all of our fall athletic teams are off to an incredible start!  Both our boys and girls cross country teams won the Berry Bryant Invitations in Riverton this past Thursday.  Over the weekend both the boys and girls golf teams won their conference championship at Star Valley and they will head to state in Riverton this weekend.  Our girls swim team continue to dominate and won the Powell Invite this weekend.  Our volleyball team had some great competition at the Rawlins Invite and ended up second place in the silver bracket.   Meanwhile our football team earned their first victory of the season with a 28-26 finish at Powell.  Cross Country will host their annual invite at the Lander Country Club on Thursday, Volleyball will host Powell on Friday and Lovell on Saturday while swimming is in Jackson.  The football team will host their first home game against Evanston with freshmen starting at 3 and varsity kicking off at 7pm.

In our continual improvement process we have reviewed both our standards-based grading implementation as well as our student responsibility block (SRB) and we have made some minor adjustments to help ensure we are meeting the needs of our students and parents.  For standards-based grading, teachers are constantly reviewing their proficiency scales and how students are doing on those scales to ensure they are both valid and reliable to measure student success.  We have also put a specific focus on the level four section of the scale with all teachers receiving additional training to help better clarify the expectations we have for students to earn "4's," and the teacher's role in helping students achieve that level. Please do not hesitate to contact the teacher directly if there is ever an confusion on any scale. We also have upgraded our grading system so that now when a student has a "missing assignment" their overall grade will become an "I" or Incomplete until that assignment is resolved.  In a standards-based system, it is important for students to complete to their best ability each piece of evidence requested to support their proficiency towards a standard.  Not doing so will result in an "I" until such work is completed satisfactorily. Please keep in mind that students must have a minimum of 5 "C's" to be eligible for activities and an "I" does not count towards one of those. Incompletes not resolved prior to the end of the semester will result in an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that will need to be completed in the next semester or during summer school for student to earn credit.  Your help in ensuring that your students are immediately taking care of any missing assignments is greatly appreciated.  You will be receiving an email for all missing assignments on a weekly basis and restrictions of privileges at school will happen until such work is completed.

In regards to SRB we have made some minor adjustments to help ensure that all students will be able to receive the help they need.  Each core department was expected to choose and communicate the times in which they would offer intervention and when they would be open for office hours.  Intervention time is reserved for those students who are specifically referred by the teacher for our SRB intervention.  This is typically when a student is below a 2.5 on a particular standard or when the student has to complete work that would require either the teacher or the materials only available in that class.  Office hours are left to the discretion of the student and could be used for enrichment, questions, retakes, make-up work etc….Here is a list of the different times for each department:

We will be having our first celebration this week and we have now moved those to the second Monday of each month beginning tomorrow to make it more consistent with the schedule that is listed above.  On those days the intervention time for both math and english would be reduced to 30 minutes and the last 30 minutes or from 3-3:30 will be our Celebration Assembly.  Tomorrow on the agenda is a celebration of our AP Scholars and AP Scholar w/Honors students for which each parent should have received a letter in the mail last week.  We will also be celebrating those who attended RYLA, HOBY, our NOLS Mentors, and FFA and their recent fair accomplishments.  Parents you are always welcome to join us for these awesome assemblies, just don't forget to bring your ID to check in as a guest.

I hope that you all have an amazing week and keep in mind that next week (9/17-9/21) is Homecoming with Disney as the theme.
