School Nursing
School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and lifelong achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; and provide case management, self advocacy, and learning (from the NASN School Nurse Role).
Immunization Information
Should all children be immunized?
Yes. Immunizations are an important part of preventive health care for all ages. They help develop immunity against potentially deadly or disabling diseases and reduce the risk of spreading diseases to others.
The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control recommends that all children receive immunizations to protect against polio, measles, mumps, rubella (German measles), pertussis (whooping cough), diphtheria, tetanus, Haemophilus influenza type B (HIB), and hepatitis B. Your health care provider may recommend additional immunizations for you and your family.
We will notify parents of continuing students by mail if your child needs additional immunizations before the new school year. State law requires students to complete all required immunizations before school starts. Students who cannot provide proof of required immunizations will not be allowed to attend school or ride the bus on the first day of classes. Please submit immunization updates to the school office of the school your child attends.
Recommendations for Obtaining Official Immunization Records
Please remember that students who are graduating typically need to obtain official copies of their academic transcripts and immunization records to provide to colleges and universities as part of the admissions process.
For immunization records specifically, please see the following recommended methods for students and parents to obtain official copies:
Request directly from a healthcare provider, school nurse, or reach out to the Department of Health.
Request through Docket; this consumer access platform provides access to personal immunization records: https://health.wyo.gov/publichealth/immunization/immunization-records/
