Local Attractions

Here are just a few sites to see and learn why Lander is so great.

Sinks Canyon State Park
In the Wind River Mountains on the middle fork of the Popo Agie River, Sinks Canyon is named after a distinct geologic phenomena in which the Popo Agie river disappears into a limestone cavern and reappears a quarter mile down canyon in a peaceful pool filled with 8–12 pound Rainbow trout. The canyon also provides a variety of recreational opportunities including rock climbing, hiking and bike trails, nature studies, camping, photography, and fishing.

Museum of the American West
Several different groups that inhabited central Wyoming helped establish the American West. This museum celebrates the diversity and cultural history of these groups in its unique, not-for-profit 8.61 acre outdoor/indoor museum complex. Visitors enjoy an engaging and unforgettable cultural history experience.

Popo Agie Falls Trail
After a moderately difficult 1.5 mile hike that begins at 7,800 feet elevation and climbs only 650 feet, hikers are rewarded with a refreshing swimming hole and a series of waterfalls, including Popo Agie Falls. Bring a picnic lunch and your swimming suit, and slide down the rock slide of the waterfall. Life doesn’t get much better than this!

Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary
Take a tour to see wild mustangs up close, learn about Native American culture, and experience life on a working cattle ranch of the Wind River Indian Reservation. The sanctuary provides professional care in a free-roaming environment.

Fremont County Pioneer Museum
This museum collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts from the Lander Valley, Fremont County, and western Wyoming dating from prehistoric times through the 1920s.

White Pine Ski Resort
White Pine offers skiing and more on Fortification Mountain, just a few miles outside Pinedale, Wyoming.
