This Saber Spotlight celebrates our Physical Education and Music Teachers! If you ask most middle schoolers what the best part of the day is, they'll tell you PE. A large part of that is due to Mr. Cooper's and Mrs. Kraenzels bravery in standing in a room with balls flying around their heads each day! This dynamic duo is also tasked with teaching about health and wellness and coaching multiple sports throughout the year. Mr. Cooper and Mrs. K. build solid relationships with all students and are willing to try whatever it takes to help students find success. They work hard to keep students active and learning fun, which has made them favorites of both students and staff. They go above and beyond every day in the gym, the weight room and across the school as they pitch in to help colleagues whenever they can.

Our music department is no less extraordinary as they work to get students concert ready multiple times a year. For many of our Sabers, music offers a way to express themselves and engages them in school beyond the classroom. The very knowledgeable and talented Dr. Vollbrecht, in choir, and Dr. Parker, in band, offer students the opportunity to build relationships with peers and develop new talents. Studies indicate that students who participate in music at school reap significant academic rewards. LMS is grateful to have such a dedicated and determined music department!

Ms. Belkin's quiet, caring and thoughtful nature has been a huge asset to our team. Paraprofessionals, Mrs. Burton, Mrs. Conilogue, Mr. Pettibone and Mr. Worthington go above and beyond every day in making sure they're students are loved and supported at whatever level they are at. The first week in May is traditionally teacher appreciation week. This year, LMS is changing things up a bit to acknowledge and celebrate all of our staff members as each is critically important in growing every Saber, every day. From putting in extra hours prepping engaging activities each day, to coaching various activities and clubs, to spending personal money to make sure bellies are free from midday rumbles, our middle school staff consistently goes the extra mile to make high levels of teaching and learning happen. We invite our community to join us in recognizing the dedication and hard work of our staff during this week of appreciation.

Our LMS Saber Spotlight is shining on our Behavior Resource Room staff this week. This group of dedicated educators exemplifies the idea of 'teamwork makes the dream work' as they juggle multiple challenges throughout the week. Leading from the heart with a tremendous amount of patience, Ms. Declerk models for all of us what it means to truly meet students where they're at. LMS Sabers will be WYTOPP testing during the weeks of April 20th and 27th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Grades are divided into two groups. Half the grade will test while the other half attends fun activities and then they'll swap the next day. Students can find out which group they're in by checking the posters in the hallways or on the screen in The Commons. Help us be successful by ensuring students are in school on these days, well rested, and fueled up . Please check in with the LMS office if you have questions. Thank you!

The Saber Spotlight shines on half our our exploratory team this week as we celebrate Ms. Olsen in Art, Mrs. Case in Computer Science, Mrs. Nash in FaCS and Mrs. Rounds in Spanish! With the exception of Mrs. Rounds, this team is all new to LMS this year. Each of these teachers work hard to connect with students, offering their support in a multitude of ways. Providing snacks and positive reinforcement in addition to hands on learning, these teachers go above and beyond every day. They are always willing to lend a hand to a colleague, share a smile with a student and go the extra mile in making LMS the best place it can be. We are lucky to have such a dedicated Exploratory Team!

Wy-Topp Spotlight
This week LMS celebrates the Math Resource Team! This team helps students bridge math gaps to reach success in the classroom and in achieving personal goals. Mrs. Thomas thinks outside the box to come up with new ideas on how to support striving students with their math. She has strong structures in her classroom that encourage students to put forth their best effort. Mr. Jensen takes a systematic approach to teaching and carefully tailors his lessons to individual student needs. He works hard to build relationships with students so that students are comfortable when working through challenging math work with his support. Math Resource Paraprofessionals, Mrs. Simpson and Ms. Stanger, are both new to LMS this year. They have quickly become favorites of the students and staff because of their warm and friendly natures and willingness to jump in and help whenever the needs arises. The LMS Math Resource team strives to build connections with students that empower effort and growth!
