SBE TO SET ANNUAL PRIORITIES & HEAR PUBLIC COMMENTS ON MIDDLE SCHOOL CTE STANDARDS
CHEYENNE - The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will meet at 9:00 a.m. on September 17, 2026, in Buffalo. Key agenda items include establishing board priorities for the 2026–27 school year, reviewing annual charter school reports, and gathering public feedback on middle school Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards.

The SBE has been asked to evaluate state requirements on whether middle school CTE standards should be taught to all students in middle school or only to students enrolled in a CTE elective course. The proposed middle school CTE standards have been presented to the SBE in draft form and may be viewed by the public here. A dedicated portion of the meeting will allow members of the public to offer input on whether CTE standards should be mandatory for grades 6–8. Stakeholders may participate either in person or virtually.

The board will establish committee priorities and operational plans for the school year across four main areas: accountability, standards, assessment, and accreditation. Several school districts will also present ideas for implementing graduation standards and requirements.

The board will review end-of-year reports from Wyoming charter schools and consider an action item regarding a request from Wyoming Classical Academy in Alpine for an alternative school schedule.

All SBE meetings are open to the public. Attendees may join in person at the Johnson County School District Office located at 601 W. Lott Street, Buffalo, WY, or participate virtually by registering in advance. Registered participants will receive instructions for joining the meeting via email.

Meeting materials are available on Diligent Community. For further details, visit the SBE website or follow the board on Facebook and Twitter.

Happening at LMS: Congratulations to the boys' cross country team for securing first place at Thursday's meet! The girls' team also deserves a round of applause for taking third place. Meanwhile, the school community enjoyed a delicious and sustainable meal, thanks to the collaboration between students and the dedicated food service staff who prepared locally sourced corn—a wonderful initiative promoting healthy eating and support for local agriculture. Adding to the day's excitement, the 7th grade science students had the opportunity to test their rockets, sparking curiosity and fostering a love for STEM subjects.
